One two-month voyage circling Australia is being halted days after the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a remote coastal location.

Suzanne Rees had been trekking on the remote island with other travelers from the vessel, but parted ways from the party for a pause. The vessel departed without her and went back several hours later after the crew realised the lady was not present.

A large-scale rescue mission located her remains the subsequent day.

Officials are looking into the incident, together with law enforcement and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator announced that guests and personnel on the ship were told that the remainder of the cruise had been called off due to the "sad loss and prior mechanical issues".

Family Reaction

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her family was "stunned and grieved that the vessel left Lizard Island after an planned excursion without my parent".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her mum as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a affiliate of a hiking organization.
