Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
